Mentoring programs have offered an opportunity to address diversity and increase participation of underrepresented faculty in the academy. Mentoring literature points to positive effects in career development. However, insubstantial mentoring programs and unsuccessful faculty development programs can contribute negatively to underrepresented faculty career progression. Studies and practices in mentoring continue to evolve because approaches to mentoring programs are broad and their intensity varies.

This talk will discuss mentoring experiences of Black and Latino faculty in academic medicine, as well as, a proposed focus on culturally relevant mentoring.
