Center for Bioethics

The Indiana University Center for Bioethics houses a robust program of research, support, and teaching. The Center was founded in 2001 to serve as a local, state, and national resource.   Faculty at the Center manage and adminster the Bioethics and Subject Advocacy Program (BSAP) of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), which includes Indiana University School of Medicine; Indiana University, Bloomington; Notre Dame; and Purdue University.  In addition, faculty teach responsible conduct of research and research ethics throughout the Indiana CTSI.  Faculty also teach at the Indiana University School of Medicine and at Indiana University - Purdue University, Indianapolis in the Department of Philosophy  (including masters degree, bioethics track) and in the Department of Medical Humanities and Medical Studies.

Working with collaborators at Indiana University, Regenstrief Institute, and many other academic institutions, faculty at the Center conduct grant-funded research on bioethics, communication, and policy.  Two current areas of focus include ethics issues related to precision health, working with others in IU’s Precision Health Initiative, and electronic health information.

For additional information about research and teaching, see the following link and individual faculty bios

For additional information about education and support provided to researchers and others, see the following link.

For bioethics resources, including links to recorded talks held at the Center or by the Bioethics and Subject Advocacy Program of the Indiana CTSI, see the following link.

The IU Center for Bioethics is hosting three speakers in the next month to discuss ethics related to precision health and genetic testing.

Please join us for any and all of these discussions!
