The Indiana University School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter H. Schwartz, M.D., Ph.D. as the Interim Director of the IU Center for Bioethics. Dr. Schwartz is an Associate Professor of Medicine at IU School of Medicine and Director of the Bioethics and Subject Advocacy Program of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI). He is also an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Indiana University – Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI), and practices adult outpatient medicine in the Eskenazi Health System. Faculty at the IU Center for Bioethics conduct research, teach, and provide service in ethics and related fields. Founding director Eric Meslin, Ph.D., led the Center from 2001 until early 2016.
In the upcoming months, Dr. Schwartz will lead a needs assessment and strategic planning process for the Center that will engage stakeholders from across the University and affiliated health systems.
The Center's work in bioethics research, education, and public engagement is far-reaching. From serving as national leaders, to publishing research, to connecting with people in the community, Center's faculty, affiliates and staff explore relevant and current ethical issues in science and medicine that influence our communities and lives.
